RBI has ordered HDFC to temporarily stop the launch of the digital business generating activities under “Digital 2.0” and acquiring of new credit card customers. “Digital 2.0” programme was being launched by HDFC to facilitate better digital services to its customers.
This decision was taken citing incidents of outages in the internet banking, mobile banking and payment utilities of the bank over the past two years. On 2nd December 2020, RBI issued an order to HDFC in regards to the same. The order encompassed the recent outages in the bank’s internet banking and payment system on November 21, 2020, that occurred due to power failure in the primary data center. Also, on 23rd December 2019 numerous customers faced issues while making EMI payments and settling credit card bills. This was an ongoing issue for a long time which is why the RBI had to step in.
